The Speed Master Waxed Biker Jacket – Heavyweight British Wax Cotton | Laird Utility
Product description:
The Speed Master is Laird Utility's tribute to the golden age of British motorcycling — the trials riders, café racers and Hollywood rebels of the 1940s, 50s and 60s who made the belted four-pocket wax jacket an icon. Cut in heavyweight waxed cotton and made entirely in England, it takes that legendary trials silhouette and rebuilds it for the modern urban rider — engineered to be the toughest jacket you'll ever own.
Every detail honours the originals while earning its keep today. Four bellowed snap-flap pockets carry everything from gloves to a hip flask; a full-length brass zip sits behind a press-stud storm flap; and the adjustable waist belt cinches the classic riding profile. Inside, a soft corduroy lining brings warmth and comfort that wax jackets rarely offer, matched by the brown corduroy collar and turn-back cuffs that contrast handsomely against the matte black shell. The embroidered Speed Master chest patch, subdued Union Jack sleeve insignia and signature red Laird Utility back badge mark it out as something built with pride on these shores.
A true buy-it-for-life jacket
Heavyweight waxed cotton is the original technical fabric — naturally weatherproof, wind-resistant and near-indestructible. This is not a jacket for a season; it's a jacket for decades. Every panel is built to take a battering and come back better, the dense wax shell developing a rich, lived-in patina that's unique to every wearer and every mile. The Speed Master will outlast everything else in your wardrobe — and probably the wardrobe too.
Caring for your Speed Master
Waxed cotton only gets better with age — and a little care keeps it performing for life. Brush off dirt with cold water and a sponge (never machine wash, dry clean or use detergent, which strips the wax), and let it air dry away from direct heat. Once a year or so, re-proof it with a tin of wax dressing: warm the wax, work it into the cloth with a cloth or sponge, paying attention to seams and creases, then hang it somewhere warm overnight to cure. Ten minutes of care, another year of service — that's the deal a proper wax jacket makes with its owner.
